The United planets

Intro The united planets is a fictional enviroment, as are the storys, that helped me create the federal forces. Main trouble on a project this size, is not to forget something. It is far easier to think up an enviroment and then, develop according to its needs. A fiew thoughts and renders here, by far not all.

The Alpha Centauri Incidence As Mankind started spreading through the universe people would never have thought to find intelligent species so fast. It was almost a shock to the U.P. ,which at that time consisted only of earth and some not independet mining outposts on mars and on some moons of Jupiter and Saturn, as the first foreign sun visited, our nearest neighbour "alpha centaury" 4 lightyears away,had a planet that showed signs of being inhabited. Even more surprising was, that the inhabitants, a primitive culture, seemed to have the same genetic inheritance as mankind. More disturbing tho was the fact that there was a relic station in the orbit of that planet, that long ago had been given up. Investigation showed however, that the station had been populated by beeings of different genetic inheritance. Further investigations on the planet prooved that there had been a planetwide war eons ago which had thrown the inhabitants back to stoneage. Those facts led to the U.P. beeing the military institution it is. Any expansion into new regions of space was planned carefully and never done without strong pressence of the U.P.`s Troops . It prooved to be right decision, it was a cruel universe and if one was to survive , he would better be well prepared. Here you see that historical event. Warbat bombers close in on that relic to see what they are up to.

The Claim The U.P. has 1000`s of unmanned droidprobes searching the galaxy`s for places fit to settle. If a planet looks promising the probe lands on it, analysing mineral resources,soil, vegetation and athmosphere. Is the place within certain "Settlement parameters" the probe sends for a ship of the "Survey Service" . highly qualified Scientists accompanied by a platoon Spacemarines for their safety, determining the details and needs for colonisation. Do they approve, the U.P. sends a small fleet of Battleships and some construction vehicles to build an orbital defense station (O.D.S.) to secure their claim. From that point on the new planet is securely in the Hands of the U.P. and it wont take long before first colonists arrive. Here you see the Stardestroyer U.P. Venegance and her sistership, the U.P.Revenger leaving orbit of a jungle planet just after the orbital defence station has been finnished.

Arguments In case the Survey Service finds the desired planet inhabited and the natives are not willing to share ( actually the U.P. means .. to give away...) their resources the U.P. does have very convincing arguments to support their point of view. Here you see the Dropshipcarriers of the 2`nd U.P. Spacemarine division having manouvered into stationary orbit. The Dropships are beeing launched in groups of three a carrier to minimize collision risk. The first wave of heavy arguments is on the way.

The Antarien conflikt Though the U.P. took utmost precautions, it is obvious that an unkown universe, holds unkown suprise. When Dj was a young U.P. Lieutnant , he commanded a Warbat crew. At that time the U.P. had disvovered a Waterplanet int the Antarien System,but the oceans were so deep, no scanners could reach the ground in 40 miles depth. That didnt care the U.P. since no one suspected any intelligent life developing that deep. So the U.P. decided to install planctonfarms on the oceansurface, a secure protein supply for the other 2 inhabited planets of the system. Regulary ,freighters picked up the extracted and processed Protein, escorted by a warbat only, since travel was quite secure within the system. One day tho, on an escorting mission, young Dj and the freighter he escorted where taken by surprise. Just having started , despite the storm, it seemed the huge waves developed multiple arms reaching for them. Huge suidlike mechanical vehicles jumped out of the water with lumiscent mouths that spitted pure energy, and arms of metal that grabbed after anything they could get hold off. The freightship dissolved in a ball of blue pulsating energy but Dj managed to dive his warbat down to almost groundlevel and make a escape within the huge moving canyons the waves created. After this incidence the U.P. disassembled all planctonfarms, since they did not have the technology to fight a war in these depths, where the mere pressure would crush all ships. The U.P. Scientist are working on it tho, the U.P. hates beeing beaten on own territorry (or what the U.P. considers as such). But until then there is peace for those unkown antarien creatures.

Scavengers If the U.P is finished with a planets resources and the planet is not worth to settle on the U.P. uses it as a waste planet. (It is unwise to leave any waste in Orbit where it could cause collisions). There are people tho, living "outside" the U.P. `s political system that, if the conditions are not to harsh, settle on those planets and try to make a living of the leftovers. The U.P.`s recycling systems operate well, but not 100%. The "Scavengers" try to get even the last usable materials out of the wrecks. The U.P. tolerates this, since the recources thus derived reach the free market and can be easely bought for a fair price. Here you see 2 Scavengers watching a Wasteship disposing material, waste to the U.P. valuable to them .

G.M.P.U. The General mining and processing units (G.M.P.U.) of the U.P. are generally located on uninhabited moons without athmosphere since some of the mined and processed materials can be real nasty (e.g.Antimatter Uranium , Plutonium etc.) Those large industrial stations are also used to recycle the metals of old Spaceships after the reusables have been salvaged in an "Salvage and maintainance vessel" Here You see 4 Freightshuttles approaching the Main Processingplant. At the back in between the huge towers housing the salvage crews and their equipment, lie remains of old Starships waiting to be demontaged.

U.P. Sail 17 U.P. Sail 17 I.S.F.M. (Inter Solar Freight Module) The solar sailors of the U.P. are a low cost way of transporting heavy loads within a solar system. The hull is a very thin Titan alloy to save weight. The sail itself is a several square Km large silicon coated carbonpolymere which is a fiew micrometers thick only. For acceleration it depends solemnly on solar winds and swingby manouvers on planets which makes navigation quite a strain on the crew and the voyage a long trip. It does have ionic manouver thrusters to position the ship tho. The focusing point of the huge sail is used to ionise stellar matter which can pass the sail at its front opening and is then gatherd by magnetic turbines on the front of the hull powering a generator. The energy produced is used for Lifesupport and the manouvering thrusters.
